Horsepower Takes On a Whole New Meaning

Claibourne Farm

Paris, Kentucky

The Kentucky Cobra Club was at it again under blue skies and gentle breezes. Attendees included a few new members, Tom Wright and Debbie in their Kellison Stallion who drove straight from Florida with their two dogs to join in. Other new members included Mr and Mrs Russ Lyle in their new Factory Five roadster in their shakedown cruise, awesome. We are delighted to have them in the club.

Tom and Debbie exemplify what Cobra ownership should be all about these days. They made the trek to Georgetown and surprised us when he blurted out, we just drove all the way from Florida to join you guys, of coures we immediately thought ast for 20 miles to swing left into a private thoroughbred farm. It was Claireborne Farm. Many dozens of Kentucky Derby, Belmont, Breeder’s Cup and Triple Crown winners list Clairebourne on the birth certificate. A private tour brought us up close to a different kind of horsepower and led us to the final resting place of Secretariat --- generally acknowledged as the greatest race horse ever. Catch the movie by the same name. The fact that we were at a stud farm brought smiles and rolled eyes. It was about a 50/50 split.

Two hours later we had traced bucolic roads, lined with stone walls, through some of the most famous race horse countryside in the world. This second leg brought us to yet another outstanding venue---The Kentucky Horse Park---host to the 2010 World Equestrian Games. The Park garnered rave reviews and a quick tour evoked considerable pride in Kentucky’s thoroughbred industry.

Everywhere we went we were met with smiles, waves and friendliness. Take a look at the photos --- they tell the story of a late summer day in Kentucky with friends from Florida, Ohio, and Indiana. This event was the Second Annual Kentucky Heritage Cruise. It will be hard to top, but we already have enticing plans for next year. If you see one these folks ask them how it was.

They saw it first hand: David and Becky Fister, Bill and Cathy Smith, Dianne and Jerry Joyner, Vince and Bea Lubbers, Russ and Lee Ann Lyle, Linda Russell and Mike Vaughn, Tom and Debbie Wright, Ken Reid and son Matt, Marvin and Martha Skaggs, Jim Levenson, Bill and Rochella Alley, Doug Fletcher, Darrel Hyche, Chas Munninghoff, Rowe Hamilton, Juan and Cindy Lopez-Bonilla.

The next club event will be on 8 September 2012. We will congregate in Ross, Ohio as guests of Gaby Batshoun of Performance Cobras. Food will be served just after 10AM and we will have a chance to see the new Superformance Dealership, renew acquaintances and participate in a cruise originating in Ross. See you there. Top off your tank before you arrive.
