Autocross

August 2, 205

Richmond, KY

Central KY Region SCCA is holding their 7th points event solo auto cross Sunday August 2, 2015 at EKU Alumni Coliseum parking lot in Richmond, KY.  Our KY Cobra Club member Randal Williamson usually runs his Factory Five at these events.

If someone wants to run their car in auto cross, they will need to be there no later than 8:30am to get their car through tech inspection.  Tech inspection is only make sure the wheels and bearings are not loose, throttle does not stick and brakes are firm.  No loose items are allowed in the trunk or car including floor mats.  Someone onsite can help you determine which class is most appropriate for your car.  Cobra's are usually in the rtu or road tire unlimited class.  Helmets must be Snell 200 or later approved.  Loaner helmets are available on site.

You can pre-register or get more info at:
http://www.ckrscca.org/events/2015/8/2/points-event-7

If you want to auto cross your car, the pre-register cost is $25 for scca members + $10 weekend membership if not a member.  You must pre-register by Saturday noon or you can pay $5 extra for walkup registration on site Sunday morning.  Note if you enter your car, you will be asked to work the track during the heat that you are not driving.  This just means setting cones back up that get run over or working a radio or red flag.

If someone just wants to come watch or even ride along in the passenger seat, it's free.  Everyone including spectators needs to sign a waiver and get an arm band.  Watchers don't need to show up until approx. 10:45am for the first heat and approx 1pm for the second heat.

There may be reasonably priced hamburgers and hot dogs available for lunch as the EKU baseball fundraiser guys usually cook for us.

If you have never auto crossed before, come get your feet wet.  Ride along with Randal or other drivers and you will see what it's all about.  Most runs only last 35-45 seconds and are in 2nd gear.  Hard corning, finessing the brakes and steering with the throttle are just some of the things to experience and learn.
