Bob Bondurant and Me Article by Roger Vincent, Bowling Green, KY At the Corvette Museum, 2012
I had a chance meeting again with Bob Bondurant at the Corvette Museum. I asked him if he remembered me and he said "Sure!" Likely not, but I asked him if he would like to drive the Cobra amongst all the Vettes. He agreed much to the chagrin of all the Vette owners nearby. I video tapped it. When he returned he asked me if I were going to Monterey in August. I said sure, isn't everyone? He thought I was serious and said if I wanted him to, he would drive my car in the historic races. I said that would be spectacular! His wife whispered that it was for original Cobras, not replicas. He gave her a stern look and said he knew the organizers and could make it happen. He would call me. I thought sure. Well one week later he called to thank me for allowing him to drive the car and said it was a wonderful example and wished he could have driven it faster and longer. The door was open, but I don't have the bank roll for a crew, transportation, race tires, insurance, etc. So I left it closed. If anybody wants to assist in this effort, I am quite at me leisure. Give me a call! I won't hold my breath. Still, it's a nice offer, and now that we have lost Shelby, these great men are getting fewer and fewer. Maybe I should borrow the money and go. But I better stay on the porch with the little dogs.
